Summer skiing can be a great solution for snow lovers who don’t like to spend their summer vacation on beach resorts swarming with the tourists. Most of us wish to escape from summer heat, crowd and noise typical for all the seaside resorts in this time of year. Spending your summer holiday on the slopes instead of the crowded beach resorts may be one of your best decisions when it comes to the summer vacation!
Summer skiing in Europe
Summer skiing is quite an adventure, especially for the first time. However, it is not available in all the ski resorts you typically visit during your winter vacation. There are few ski resorts in Europe with high altitude glaciers in the ski zone. The glacier enables the ground temperatures to stay sufficiently low to be able to prevent the snow break. Nevertheless, the sunshine naturally influences the snow conditions, and for this reason ski lifts start from 7 am in summer and they operate up until 12:30-14:00 pm.
The snow conditions are the best early in the morning, and this is a perfect morning kick-starter for early risers. It is recommended to make a good use of the morning and after the ski lifts stop operating, the visitors can try hiking, mountain biking or para-gliding. There are no many excellent destinations suitable for this type of activity in Europe, but if you consider using your summer vacation in this way, here are the destinations you should be familiar with.
An absolute champion when it comes to snow and skiing. At an incredible altitude of 3820m, Zermatt has the highest and the largest summer skiing zone in Europe. Eight ski lifts and twenty-five kilometers of pistes are available to skiers during the whole summer season. However, during the summer, skiing zone takes up only 10% of (usually) skiable area, but the experience is indeed phenomenal. Richard Wately used to say “Lose an hour in the morning, and you will be all day hunting for it.” And this is a very true statement, because if you oversleep the morning, you will miss the great snow conditions and excellent skiing – and you don’t want to do that.
Les Deux Alpes
Les Deux Alpes in French Alps offers great set-up for the summer vacation of snow lovers. Glacier du Mont de Lans makes the summer skiing possible in June, July and even August. The ski slopes reach an astounding altitude of 3600m. The ski zone has 800m vertical descent and sixteen lifts operating from 7:15am – 12:30 pm. La Grave off-piste zone is available early in the morning with outstanding snow conditions after a nighttime snowfall. An excellent snow park with boarder-cross, half-pipes, jump modules and grind bars offers every single thing you would need to enjoy your stay. Besides, barbecues are often organized, including fantastic music, in case you feel the need for some company.
Use the opportunity to admire the magnificent panoramic views and use your vacation to get a unique summer skiing experience in Europe!
